I love to see a movie that incorporates the opening titles or opening sequence into the movie and lets them interact as one. Stranger than Fiction has an incredible opening sequence, illustrating the main character’s thoughts as he goes about a normal day. Created by MK12 of Kansas City, MO.

The term off the grid or off-grid refers to living in a self-sufficient manner without reliance on one or more public utilities. On April 13, 2006, USA Today reported that there were “some 180,000 families living off-grid, a figure that has jumped 33% a year for a decade.” From Wikipedia.

Project description from Jez Burrows: Asked to respond to the word banausic, I chose to take the most grandiose, wilfully complex thing I knew and express it as mechanically and cold as I could manage. ‘Destroyer’s Rubies’ by Destroyer was that thing.

I transcribed the entire album and produced an exhaustive collection of diagrams and analysis, including: every word contained in the album in order of how many times it appears; references; grammatical structure; and the overall distribution of lyrics and ‘la’s.

Fantastic Poster. Here’s a description of the project from Peter Crnokrak: A_B_ is a geopolitical survey of the 192 member states of the United Nations with regard to the quantitative degree to which each contributes to peace and terror in the world. The project is a dual-sided poster where the A_ side displays measures of peace, while the B_ side, measures of terror. For each of the A_B_ measures, the graph is divided into 3 rings (3 separate indexes for peace and 3 separate indexes for terror) that are themselves individual quantitative measures obtained from researchers working in the field of geopolitics. The quantitative variation for the peace and terror measures is represented as variation in line thickness: thin line=low value, thick line=high value. The functional nature of the poster becomes poignantly relevant when one makes detailed comparisons across nations for the various measures—many of the results are quite surprising and stand in contrast to prevailing norms of collective national perception.

A friend once told me that seeing Method’s packaging made them think of my design; I consider that a tremendous compliment since I have always admired the minimal design of their packaging.

Method is a company with great products and an environmentally responsible philosophy. Visit their site to purchase some great looking products and detox your home at the same time!

When Target chose to rebrand its private label Archer Farms, they wanted something that would stand out from the crowd and become the premium option. Ultimately, Target chose a design from Michael Osborne Design instead of that shown above. The current packaging design for Archer Farms is nicely done, but this concept from Templin Brink Design would have fit the Target brand better. The Target name is known for clean and modern design, and this design would have simply added to that already established feeling.

I love to see opening/ending credits to movies done well. One recent example is Iron Man. If you have not seen the movie, click here to see the ending credits.

Beautiful poster from Keep Calm. I love the way it looks and it’s even better when you read that it was “a message fly-posted around Britain during World War Two.” Visit their site to buy one for yourself.
